How to Use the Image Cropping Tool

This guide shows you how to use our free tool. You can crop, resize, and fix your pictures right here in your browser. You don’t need to download or install anything.

Step 1: Add Your Picture

First, you need to add a picture. There are two easy ways:

  • Drag and Drop: Drag a picture from your computer and drop it onto the main work area.
  • Add Image Button: Click the “Add Image” button to pick a picture from your computer.

You can add many pictures. They will show up in a small bar at the top. Click on any picture to start working on it.

Step 2: Crop Your Picture

The clear box on your picture is the crop box. It shows what part of the picture you will keep.

  • To Move it: Click inside the box and drag it around.
  • To Resize it: Click and drag the small white squares on the corners and sides of the box.

For perfect sizes, you can use the Presets menu to choose sizes for Instagram, YouTube, or printing. You can also check the “Lock Aspect Ratio” box to keep the shape of the crop box from getting stretched.

Step 3: Change Your Picture

You can do more than just crop.

  • Rotate & Flip: Use the Rotate slider to turn your picture. You can also click the buttons to flip it sideways or upside down.
  • Adjust Colors: Use the sliders on the right to make your picture brighter, change colors, or make it black and white. Click Reset to go back to the original.

Step 4: Save Your Picture

When you are happy with your picture, it’s time to save it.

  1. Format: Choose how to save your file. PNG is good for clear backgrounds. JPEG is best for photos.
  2. Quality: For JPEGs, this slider lets you pick between a smaller file size or better quality.
  3. Resolution (PPI): This is for printing. Use 300 for good quality prints.
  4. Export: Click the “Export Image” button to download the finished picture to your computer.

Extra Tips

  • Undo/Redo: If you make a mistake, use the undo (↶) and redo (↷) buttons.
  • Fullscreen: Click the fullscreen icon to work without any distractions.
  • Dark Mode: Click the moon icon (☾) to switch to a darker look that’s easier on your eyes at night.

Getting Started

How do I use this tool?

Just add your picture by clicking “Add Image” or by dragging it onto the gray area. A box will show up on your picture. Drag the box to move it, or pull the corners to change its size. Use the tools on the side to choose a preset size, rotate, zoom, and more.

What kind of pictures can I use?

You can add pictures that are PNG, JPEG, or WEBP files. You can save your new picture in any of those formats, too.

Tool Features

Can I make my whole picture smaller or bigger?

Yes. To resize your whole picture without cutting it, look for the “Image Scaling” section. Check the box that says “Scale full image on export.” Then you can type in a new size.

How can I make the background clear?

To get a clear (transparent) background, your picture must be a PNG file. When you save, choose PNG as the format and make sure the “Transparent Background” box is checked.

Can I work on many pictures at once?

Yes, you can. You can add many pictures at the same time. They will show up in a small bar at the top. Just click on any picture in the bar to work on it.

Privacy and Printing

Are my pictures safe?

Yes, your pictures are completely safe. Everything happens on your own computer. Your pictures are never sent to us, so they stay private to you.

What is PPI and why does it matter?

PPI is important for printing. A higher PPI makes your printed picture look sharp and clear. For good quality prints, use 300 PPI. Our tool is already set to 300 to help you get great prints.

Support

Is this tool really free?

Yes, it’s 100% free. There are no hidden costs and you don’t need to sign up. The pictures you save will not have a watermark.
